2025 marks a defining moment for Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) - a year of transformation and international recognition. As Northern Europe’s leading cruise hub, CMP is setting new standards for responsible growth, operational excellence, and regional collaboration.
This year, CMP expects to welcome over 1 million cruise passengers across 403 calls, with Copenhagen alone anticipating more than 850,000 guests and around 300 calls. In 2024, CMP received close to 1 million cruise guests across Malmö, Visby, and Copenhagen, with the Danish capital hosting 818,000 guests and 280 calls, including 106 turnarounds and a growing number of overnight stays. In 2025, 32 overnight calls are expected- a clear signal of increasing demand for immersive guest experiences in Copenhagen.
Strategically located as a gateway to the Baltic and North Atlantic, Copenhagen offers world-class infrastructure, including a well-connected international airport and six versatile cruise berths. These include flexible turnaround facilities at the three Ocean Quay terminals, and centrally located berths at Langelinie Pier and Nordre Toldbod, catering to all vessel sizes and segments.
Investments in future-ready infrastructure is being made in Copenhagen. In 2025, Langelinie Pier, Copenhagen’s oldest cruise quay, is undergoing a full renovation, adding shore power, sewage discharge, strengthened quay structure, upgraded pavement, and modernized bollards. These upgrades support scalable, guest-focused growth while enhancing environmental performance.
As part of its broader sustainability efforts, CMP has equipped five piers with shore power infrastructure offering 20 MVA capacity, with plans to expand to 48 MVA by 2028. This development contributes to reducing emissions and noise at berth and supports cruise lines in meeting their climate goals. CMP is also on track to achieve net-zero CO₂ emissions in its own operations by the end of 2025, having already reduced emissions by 76% since 2020.
CMP’s commitment to responsible tourism is reflected in its collaborative approach. CMP fosters transparency and ensures cruise tourism aligns with local priorities. This is further strengthened by the strong collaboration with Cruise Denmark – Copenhagen and Beyond, an award-winning network of nearly 60 local partners working together to deliver high-quality services to passengers, crew, and stakeholders. This initiative makes Copenhagen a model for responsible cruise tourism.
In May 2025, CMP co-hosted the largest Cruise Europe Conference ever held, welcoming 220 participants and 23 cruise lines to discuss sustainability, deployment, and community engagement. CMP’s role as a connector and convenor has never been stronger.
On October 22, Copenhagen was named Europe’s Leading Cruise Port 2025 by the World Travel Awards - for the second consecutive year. The award, based on votes from travel professionals and consumers, celebrates Copenhagen’s excellence in cruise logistics, infrastructure, and cross-sectoral collaboration. It
follows CMP’s win of the Seatrade Cruise Award for Port of the Year 2025, and CMP is now nominated for World’s Leading Cruise Port 2025.
