Michael Braathen's extensive travel background, shaped by his multicultural upbringing across countries like Italy, Holland, Norway, Portugal, Brazil, the USA, and South Africa, paved the way for his career in the cruise industry.

Since beginning his journey on September 17th, 1997, Michael has cultivated a deep passion for cruising. Starting in the Shorex department, he quickly advanced to Shorex Manager and became a certified PADI Scuba Instructor—a benefit from Caribbean cruising.After 16+ years at sea, Michael transitioned to shore-based roles, balancing family life with his long dedication to the cruise industry. Currently based in Portugal, he serves as the Director of Itinerary Planning, Port Operations, and Land Programs at Mystic Cruises. He oversees operations for both Nicko Cruises, a mass-market German brand, and Atlas Ocean Voyages, a luxury expedition yacht brand. Michael’s role allows him to blend diverse itinerary planning and unique shoreside activities, fueling his enthusiasm for the industry every day.
